I growled out. “Let me lead,” he said and I let him run toward the direction where he felt Charlotte was. “Why didn't you tell me sooner?” I growled again. “I wasn't sure, but the feeling is getting stronger,” he said as he smoothly and hurriedly evaded all the curious passers-by. “Do you still think Charlotte and Lexi as our mates?” I asked him curiously. “I only have one mate in this life. If not for your incompetence, I wouldn't have lost them,” he growled.

“You’re still with me.” And I knew then, in the depths of my soul, that I wasn’t alone. I couldn’t be. Not with Lucian, not with Ethan, not with my pack. I was still here. And I would fight.

“I don’t believe you, you wouldn’t have let her go…” “Well it’s a good thing then that she didn’t let me down. I’ve got to go…” I start walking again, Hector by my side. “I’m coming with you…” “Hector, I’m going to the cells…” I sigh out, maybe it would be better if he wasn’t present for this. “I know where you are going, remember I’m your mate. I hesitated for only a second before nodding. “Yes.” Alex’s jaw tensed, but before he could say anything, I reached for his hand. “Only if you’re coming with me.” He stared at me for a moment, then a slow smile spread across his lips. “Yeah, I’m coming.” Relief flooded me, and I squeezed his hand. Having Alex by my side meant I wouldn’t have to face Aaron alone. It meant I had someone who truly had my back.

I watch him straighten, as if the information hasn't properly registered. "Did they hurt you?" His gaze roves over my exposed skin, checking for anywhere I may be favouring. "No, I'm fine. He wanted to take me with him, but he got interrupted," I explain, shuddering at the thought. What would have happened had I succumbed to the mate bond and went with him? Charlotte’s POV He wasn't brave enough to answer my question, so he kept telling me not to worry about it. He walks with me down a street with few people around. As lovely as it may seem, I know that when the time comes, we will both be at odds with each other. His eyes light up with a soft laugh, and the sun shines on his face as he looks at me. I felt so close to him. He hugged my warm body and begged me, "Please never leave me again."
