My voice barely audible. A pause that felt eternal. Then a voice. Female. Soft. Almost gentle. Close enough that I felt the breath on my face. "Did you really think walls could keep me out?"

He was interrupted when a sales lady suddenly approached. "Good afternoon, Ma'am and Sir. What can I do for you? Is it for Sir?" I raised my eyebrows because of the sales lady's question. Dyhein turned to me and looked at me in shock. I pursed my lips and shook my head, trying not to laugh. Soon the sales lady also left in front of us, Dyhein and I were secretly laughing. I didn't know Ate still had jetlag.

I squeeze harder. “Where. Is. She?” He was grunting and turning purple, but he still wouldn't beg. I knew he wouldn’t but I’d be grateful if he just dropped dead—but that would be too easy. Too quick. Then I heard it. “Put him down.” The voice is Soft. Low. Not a threat. Not a plea. But enough to freeze me where I stand. I let him go. He crumples, gasping and coughing, but I don’t look at him anymore.

Elder Festus's voice is much more firmer than that of his superior, Adolphus. "This is insane, how in the world can such a thing be implemented in this park?" "It has been so right before our existence," Elder Festus states matter-of-factly as he pushes a big black ancient book to my side. I reluctantly go through the book, and after spending the least five minutes skimming through it, I can feel my breath getting caught up in my throat. In a rush, I slam the book shut before returning my attention to them. "How come no one ever told me?" My voice is rough and bitter, and lastly, it sounds accusing.

Softened. “Come here,” he said quietly. I hesitated for a second. Then I sat beside him. Close enough to feel the warmth of his body. Close enough to hear his breathing. His hand lifted, brushing lightly along my arm. Slow. Careful. Like he was still asking. Not taking. My breath caught slightly. “This is still very much a bad idea,” I whispered. “And yet you’re still not stopping me,” he said softly. I swallowed. I wasn’t. I couldn’t.

I took a deep breath, and did as I was told, feeling my stomach plummet, and my senses go sharper than it already was. Mike still had his fingers on mine, giving strength. I could hear the sound of books, and smell of books all at once. People truly lived here. “I’m just stunned.” I said quietly.
