"Trying not to become a monster." I laughed softly, the sound hollow. "Trying not to hurt people." The energy around me surged higher. "But this place," I looked around at the twisting darkness, "it keeps teaching me that maybe monsters aren't born." My eyes locked with hers, unblinking. "Maybe they're created."

Her voice jammed in her throat when he grabs her by the neck and bangs her against the door. " I'm a b**tard. I'm a killer. I'm cruel. " He was saying each word firmly slowly. " But not a monster. " She angrily pushed him but his grip left bruises on her jaw. " I'm not a monster. I'm not. Cupcake. " He whispered disappointingly. " You know who's the biggest monster?
