Golden scales falling from the sky. Blood. His father was bleeding. Something changed in his eyes. The uncertainty disappeared. Slowly, he stepped forward. Golden fire ignited around him. Stronger than before. Brighter. His scales spread rapidly. His eyes glowed. Every dragon in the clearing became perfectly still. Verath looked at the sky. At his father. At the impossible battle unfolding above. Then he spoke. The words were quiet. But they carried across the clearing. “Open the skies.” The dragons lifted their heads.

*Will* I open the book, revealing the vibrant illustrations of dragons dancing through the skies. “This one is about a dragon named Ember who learns to overcome her fears.” I begin to read, my voice low and soothing, aiming to pull both Frida and Kiera into the enchanting world of the story. “Once upon a time, in a distant land, there was a dragon named Ember. Unlike the other dragons, who soared through the clouds with confidence, Ember was afraid to fly.” I glance at Kiera, who leans in slightly, her eyes reflecting interest.

Dragons falling from the sky. The Devourer standing over a sea of corpses. A voice crying my name.

This song sings my truth, about how I will destroy the dragons who have tortured and killed her, avenging her honor with my two hands covered in their blood. It is a gruesome tale. By the end, the room is completely silent. And then one by one the humans stand and clap, my words singing to something deep within them. Those gathered have suffered greatly at the hands of thoughtless dragons who take and take without regard to the lives around them. If I were king, I'd change that. It's time that dragons relinquish their control and let humans have a voice in our councils. Our actions affect them, why shouldn't they have a say?

Sprites flew to the sky while my dragon shook his head in a fury. "Calm yourself," I spoke into my mind. "We will scare her." My dragon didn't want to stop; the heat of his heart warmed our body. We had much fire within our gut that needed to be extinguished before becoming too hot. Once too hot, our fire would burn us inside out. Stretching our wings, we took to the sky, leaving Razak behind. The small whimper was left to the ground while our body heaved itself upward.

Liliana's POV "Ready?" I hear my father's quiet voice, pulling my eyes form the beautiful beached long boat that holds Mummo’s body. I look up to my father, then Vaari, as Raven and I stand between them. "Yes, she would have liked everyone here and she always said she wanted to see the dragons one last time," Vaari speaks with a hoarse voice as he nods, Raven holds onto him. I watch Draig walk towards a large clearing, he begins to pull his clothes off before shifting into a magnificent black and gold dragon. I listen to Helena speak before she begins singing, my gaze stays fixed on Draig as he stretches his wings before taking off.
