We ran out of the cottage and into the garden. But it wasn't the garden anymore. The illusion was breaking. The sky was cracking like glass, showing the grey, dead world outside. The people were waking up from their trance, screaming in confusion as their collars began to spark.
We ran toward the golden tower. If Fenris was the source, he was the only way out.
But as we reached the base of the tower, the ground began to open up.
A massive, mechanical beast—made of brass, bone, and gears—rose from the earth. It had the head of a wolf and the body of a spider. And sitting on its back, looking down at us with a look of pure, insane joy, was Sarah.
