Her voice trembled as she said, "I've finally found you, Matt! Do you know how much I've struggled looking for you—"
Matthew didn't say a thing. Instead, he lowered his head and pried off her fingers. "Please show some respect, miss. Do I know you?"
Evelyn froze, staring at him in disbelief. "Matt, it's me—Eve! I'm not dead. I've come back!"
Matthew finally looked up to meet her gaze. His eyes, which once held so much love, were now cold.
"Evelyn is long dead," he said quietly. "She died in that crash, leaving nothing but ashes. You're nothing but a stranger to me now."
