I had to inhale and exhale a million times before leaving the car. I resist the urge to take a quick smoke to soothe me before leaving. Everything in the mansion was as it was except a little quiet. When she came back, she was even sterner. Nora hadn't just gone to pee. She’d gone to the bathroom to check the trash and sniff the air. Just by reading the novel, she felt like she was in another world and forgot for a moment what was happening to her at the moment. She seemed to be immersed in her own world of reading. Meanwhile, at the Torrence family mansion, Vivian, Adam's mother, was engrossed in reading a magazine in the living room. There was tea and freshly baked cookies on the table.

Sam rushed his words before I ended the call. I followed Nora in a rush and headed to Nana's room. Glenda was rushing down the stairs just as we were about to take the hallway leading to Nana's room. She caught up with us quickly, anxiety draped her expression. “What happened?” She asked, falling into steps with us. It was the first time I was seeing her since the day she found out about her inheritance. She looked lean. The aftermath of starving herself for days. But beautiful regardless. She still looked stunning.

I took to my heels and ran in her direction, crashing beside her and pulling her lifeless body into my arms. I tapped her cheeks fiercely, trying to make her open her eyes, but she didn't. “Baby.........Baby,” my hoarse voice called her, as I continued to shake her. But her tiny body remained still in my arms. The warmth that was once in her body had vanished, replaced by coldness. “No.......No,” I sobbed, staring at her. “That’s the price of your disobedience, Nora. Remember, you killed her and not me. You should have listened!!”

The air in the room seemed to change, as though the shadows themselves were leaning in, listening. “But...” she continued, her voice taking on a more serious tone now, one that Julian couldn't ignore. It was like she was warning him, “It’s not going to be simple. You’ll inherit more than just wealth. There are people in place, people who’ve been operating in the shadows for years, who will test your authority, challenge your claim. And many of them? I felt my throat closing as my voice scraped out, barely audible, “Okay… I’ll do it.” Amelia didn’t move at first. And then, slowly, like a storm cloud unraveling, a smile bloomed across her face, “There’s my good daughter.” She whispered. Before I could react, she pulled me into a hug. Her arms wrapped tightly around me. She pressed her cheek against mine, her breath warm on my skin, “You’ve made the right choice, Nora. You’ll see. Once she’s gone, everything will fall into place. The inheritance, the name, the legacy will soon be all yours.” Amelia turned around and picked up her phone from the table, then rushed to her room and brought out a paper and pen.
