Luca swallowed hard.
“I didn’t ask for any of this.”
Paolo laughed once, bitter. “You think that matters? None of us ask. We inherit. And if you can’t carry it, I’ll find someone who can.”
“You mean destroy me.”
“No,” Paolo said smoothly. “Just remove the weak link.”
There it was.
Plain. Icy. Real.
