Chapter 41: Teenage Schmooze
It was final. I agreed to Daniel's plan that we should pretend that we were together. We needed to deceive Kourtney to make her delete the video or else I would rot in jail. I was near turning eighteen, and it was freaking me out. It just meant that I needed to be more cautious when I reached the legal age.
Daniel and I went outside of the room, after all the drama that occurred inside of it. When my eyes met the hallway, I bumped on to Kourtney. Speaking of the devil.
She glanced back and forth between me and Daniel, who was standing right behind me. Her eyebrows were raised, and her mouth gaped. She looked surprised.
"Hi." I sighed, not sure what to say next. I looked behind me, as Daniel ran his hand to his tousled hair.
"You guys. . ." she said with suspicion. "That's why you took so long." She nodded her head and chuckled, her signature mischievous smirk crept across her face.

I gulped in disbelief, as everyone in the room— including Hansel— went out to give us some alone time.I didn't respond. I was too shocked. Tomorrow, after the dreadful night at home, I still managed to get up and prepare for school. I wasn't going to stop, not now.Not now that I already felt good. It made me feel good, in a way that gave me hope to live. I was still sad though, to be honest. Dad was still held captive and Hansel's handling it. The school was done, and I was heading to the exit. People were starting to diminish, as chitchats and cackles filled the entire hall. I was a bit exhausted, but it was unlike before. I couldn't utter a word, as my heart beat rapidly at the sight of Hansel. A grin was plastered on his face, bright and optimistic. My eyes were widened, my hands were sweating, and I caught a lump in my throat.
