She pushed that down deep, sipping from stored bags in the fridge. Rain hammered the windows that Tuesday night. Lydia sat at her desk, sorting through a box of new books. One caught her eye: Spirits of the Wild: Bindings and Releases. The cover was cracked leather, smelling like dirt and old forests. She flipped it open, her fingers brushing over faded words in some ancient tongue. "Just a peek," she told herself. Curiosity burned in her chest. She read the spell aloud, soft and quick, like testing a locked door. The air changed. It got heavy, like before a storm. Candles on the shelves flickered wild, shadows dancing on the walls. Inward. Converging toward her. Like gravity pulling cracks toward a center point. “I’m the anchor,” she realized. The well exploded upward in a column of radiant liquid. Not water anymore. Energy. Gold light surged into the sky, twisting like a living serpent. Guards shielded their eyes. Stone cracked outward from the well’s edge. Lily did not retreat. Instead, she stepped forward. The golden fire erupted from her spine, wings unfolding in blazing arcs. She met the column midair.

My home was the closest to the ocean, the farthest point away from the temple,all wisely planned by my grandpa so I would have a hard time lurking around during sessions that plan is not working out well. I reached in and carefully pulled out an old book, a very very old book. The pages were turning a musky brown colour and the ink came off if pressed on. The book cover was dirty and faded but I could still make out the words Dark Arts. The book was originally general knowledge of dark arts, spells, potions and a whole lot but the one I held had been reviewed with hand written guidelines, understanding of spells and how to use the spells to create new ones.

A student asked from inside. Oceana got in, and headed straight to the council of enchants. She got her student permit, and also a map around the school. She took the map and headed straight for her cabin. She got into the cabin and was irked by it, cus it was looking like that of a sorceress. She saw different colors of candle stick, a very small mortar and pestle, powders that had different scents, and so on. She saw a book on the table, boldly written 'BOOK OF THE ANCIENT SUPERNATURALS, VOLUME TWO.' she stretched out her hands to touch the book.

I opened that book and started reading Aunt's notes. I guessed that she must have started writing it after she found the information on cor inane amulet. There were all sorts of protection spells that people used on witches for ages. I could boldly assume that 99% of them wouldn't have a slightest impact on me. Then there was information about cor inane itself. Aunt Kira even found out that the amulet could be turned to a powder and used as a poison. Kira's notes said that using less than half a gram of medium-strong, powdered cor inane could permanently deprive someone of magical abilities.

But it didn't matter because she suddenly had fresh and wonderful possibilities. "Yes and no," she said in answer to the servant’s question. "I must return home and retrieve the Spell Book." Her heart lifted at the thought of wielding the book’s power—it didn’t contain only realm-travel spells, but also summoning spells more powerful than anything the kingdoms had seen in centuries, power transference spells—the possibilities were nearly limitless. "I will take the beast with me, so you are not troubled by him, and then I shall seal this portal behind me, so the prince cannot follow."

Dimulous, a spell to darken the light. Illumini, to create a bright light, Interesting. I flip through more pages to read more spells and chants. The back of the book has potion recipes. Suddenly, Kayla startles me as she stands very close, staring intently at my hair. She’s a bit odd, how she was reading my hand like a book and now staring at my white hair in thought.

I think I should rest now but I’m not tired yet and I haven’t reached my goal yet— to release energy and form it into a weapon like a sword or something. “You can do it Crystal.” I whispered to myself before letting a huge amount of black energy out of my hands, just enough for me to create an output. I imagined a bow and an arrow and tried to make it out of my magic by slowly moving my hands in the air but I just ended up being surrounded by black smoke. I never thought that doing an enchanted craft can be this hard but how can a respectable school accept someone like me who only knows how to release her magic and knows nothing beyond it?

It looked ancient, its pages wrinkled and brittle. "I think... I think I might have found something that can help," she said, her voice trembling slightly. She opened the book to a seemingly random page and began to read, her finger tracing the invisible lines. "This book... it speaks of a spell. A spell that can induce a temporary state of unconsciousness in shapeshifters. It can also help us detect them hiding amongst the villagers." She paused, her gaze meeting ours. "If we cast this, we can expose any spies that the Blue Moon pack might have planted, and maybe, just maybe, put a stop to their plans."

he grabbed Jared in a headlock, ruffling his hair aggressively. Jared looked none too fazed, rolling his eyes slightly, as if he was used to his dad doing things like this, though I saw a hint of a smile on his lips. "The reason I brought you here was because of this," he went over to one of the shelves, pulling out a huge, emerald-covered book from it. "The witches left the book here, it is said to contain an extensive list of spells and potions in there that is not easy to find in other spell books. It's ancient, consisting of easy spells, to hard ones, and even some spells they conjured themselves," he explained, handing over the book to me.
