Toya lifted her brow and Wendy bit her lip. “I know you are saying something when you point at the rock in your hand here. Aim. My eyes widened when I saw the gorgeous purple and white designs on the book with dark purple lettering that read: Spell Book. “A spell book?” I gasped, running my fingers down the front cover. “Is this real?” She nodded.

She ran her fingers along the spines, the gold lettering cool against her skin. Drawn in by the sheer volume, she hesitantly pulled a book from the shelf, a slim volume bound in dark blue leather. The title was etched in silver: The Royal Grimoire of Sacred Oaths. She opened it, her eyes skimming the ornate calligraphy, the intricate diagrams filled with arcane symbols.

His hands finally came up from under the counter and clutched in its grip was a book–brown covered and without a speck of dust. “A cheque book?" I asked, arching a brow as I tilted my head. “You want to give me a cheque? I appreciate the thought, Ger Bear, but you know I ain't allowed in the back. You know what happened the last time I went there.” "It's not a cheque book,” Gerald mumbled before sliding it across the counter to me. "It's a spell book. One that can be used to summon the demon lord, Anakin.” I stood still, my fingers grazing the cover. "A spell book?” I asked and Gerald nodded. A strained laugh tore out of my lips. "Tell me you're joking, Gerald.”

She hid back and thought, If no one is with him, then it must be the 'Spirala. Spirala was a kind of magical communication where one drew spiral lines at the lower nape of their necks to call out for the person they wanted to communicate with. After each line, there was always a unique sign for each person. Only aristocrats and royals could use this type of magic. It was no surprise that Karras could use it because he was the son of one of the noble families in Baltras.

It’s filled with dark magic and curses that could ultimately be our end.

She quickly moved on to the next step. “Spellcasting is more than just throwing energy around. There are words, incantations, and movements that enhance the power.” She walked over to a book resting on a wooden bench and flipped through the pages. “Here. Try this one. It is a simple energy manipulation spell.” I took the book, scanning the ancient script. The words felt foreign, yet familiar, as if they had always been buried somewhere deep inside me.
