I was just a child, lost and alone, and the sight of this stranger filled me with fear. My heart began to pound in my chest, and my legs trembled as the man looked down at me. I felt small and vulnerable, with no one to turn to for help. But then, he reached down and picked me up in his arms, cradling me close to his chest. The warmth of his embrace soothed me, calming the storm inside me, and I snuggled closer, seeking comfort in his strong arms.

The house collapsed upon the boy, with his screams the last thing I heard. .......... "Liam!" I screamed, jerking from the bed. My heart thumped in an abnormally rapid rate, and I was sweating despite the cold evening breeze that had blown through the window. My nose stung, and the liquid against my cheek made me realize that I was crying. I wiped the tears again. "You are one hell of an interesting wolf." I glanced to my side to find the stranger from earlier sitting on a chair beside me and reading a book. I watched as his eyebrows would raise and lower at intervals, probably finding something interesting in the book.

“I’m someone who doesn’t like losing people in the middle of nowhere.” Isabella gave a short, mirthless laugh. “Since when do you care who lives or dies?” “Since the thing out there started counting heads,” he snapped. My lips reflexly parted. I felt my wolf, Shirley jump with excitement from the stranger’s touch. She was making me really nervous.
