Stay over and just maybe you’ll get breakfast in bed, just the way you like it. I sit on the edge of the bed, bowing my head while clutching the phone. My heart is racing, rage pulsing through my veins. Is she still fucking him? I want to shake her, wake her up, and demand she answer. It isn’t only the anger taking over me, it’s the jealousy that he touched her, he’d been inside her, and he gets to wake up with her. I close the door behind me, leaving her apartment, my head riddled with guilt.

My chest went tight in a sharp and sudden manner, and it was just like someone had driven a blade right between my ribs. “Fuck,” I whispered. I listened again, just to be sure. Like it would change anything. Well… jokes on me. I should be worried for both of them, for Isla especially, with everything already hanging over her head. But instead jealousy hit me hard and ugly. It wasn’t rational and it wasn’t fair, but it burned anyway. My hand curled into the mattress. “You’ve got to be kidding me.” I pushed myself upright, the room suddenly feeling too small and too hot. I needed air, maybe to step outside a little bit.

The security breach turned out to be an inside job, a low-level staff member bought by a rival faction for an amount of money that Emeric described, with cold contempt, as insulting. Silas identified the man within twelve hours, the matter was handled in the basement level, and the estate returned to its routines with new encryption protocols on every electronic lock.

“I think she found you attractive.” My brain struggles to figure out why he would be upset about a woman checking me out. Somira whispered in her sleep, a beautiful smile on her face as she wrapped her hands under her head. Innosine stared at her sleeping face, of course, he knew that she wasn't saying those words to him. She hates him and he hates her more but the eagerness flowing in him wants to know who she said those words to in her sleep. To his surprise, he felt a hint of jealousy when he thought of her saying this to another man. He stood there in shock wondering why he was thinking this way towards her. No! I had to step away because I had the craziest urge… to touch it. Rationally, I knew the right thing to do was to stop before things went too far, but part of me didn’t want to. The ache between my legs lingered all the way to the little ice cream shop in Goldenleaf, where we both ordered two scoops and got to the register before realizing that neither of us brought our wallets. Theo sweet-talked the girl at the counter into letting us have the ice cream for free, and all the while I looked on, something ugly stirring inside of me- jealousy.

A surge of unexpected anger welled up within me, catching me off guard. How could they, all of whom had mates of their own, be so brazenly fixated on someone else?
