My body collides with the surface, the shock of the cold water burning through me, making me gasp. I barely have time to process what’s happening before the water consumes me. It’s everywhere. In my mouth. My nose. My eyes. I try to push up, but I’m disoriented. I can’t feel anything anymore. The air’s gone, replaced by the weight of water pressing down on me, filling every inch of my body with the chill. And then, suddenly, I break through the surface. Air.

I was too close to the river that I didn't just fall on just the ground anymore. I fell in the river. I fell into the deep, cold, flowing waters of the river.

a cool breeze swirls around, lifting my hair. I grab the matchbook and strike one quickly so I don’t burn myself. I say, “bring forth this fire inside, may it forever burn as the smoke helps me rise.” I blow out the fire, “ignis.” Heat ripples over my skin, causing me to sweat before it cools. Turning west, I pick up the bowl of water, “bring forth the water inside, may it flow and never run dry.” Dumping it down in front of me, I say, “aqua” as a coolness settles over me and the water puddles at my feet.

I dipped a toe into the water and gasped—it was cold but refreshing Without hesitation, I waded in. The water lapped at my legs and then rose to my waist. When it was deep enough, I ducked under, letting the coolness envelop me. It sent a jolt through my body and a strange sense of calm. Emerging with a gasp, I ran my fingers through my wet hair, feeling the droplets trickle down my back.

Holding the piece of Sophie's bone that she wore around her neck, Tina slowly closed her eyes and leaned forward. There was a loud splash as she jumped into the water.

They were all submerged in the pool's refreshing embrace. They embraced the liberating sensation of being in the water, revelling in the joy of their friendship and the freedom to be themselves.

The water inside sloshes, a dark, inviting pool. ‘He’s still trying to escape. No way! It’s now or never! He’s still trying to put distance between us, to retreat into his denial. But I’m not letting him. Not anymore. With a surge of adrenaline, I walk past him, my gaze locked on his retreating form. I step into the bathtub. The water is shockingly cold, biting at my skin, stealing my breath. I turn to face him, the icy water now lapping at my chest.
