My body collides with the surface, the shock of the cold water burning through me, making me gasp. I barely have time to process what’s happening before the water consumes me. It’s everywhere. In my mouth. My nose. My eyes. I try to push up, but I’m disoriented. I can’t feel anything anymore. The air’s gone, replaced by the weight of water pressing down on me, filling every inch of my body with the chill. And then, suddenly, I break through the surface. Air.

I was too close to the river that I didn't just fall on just the ground anymore. I fell in the river. I fell into the deep, cold, flowing waters of the river.

When it was deep enough, I ducked under, letting the coolness envelop me. It sent a jolt through my body and a strange sense of calm.
