The trigger clicked under his finger, shooting out a stream of orange flame that reached all the way to the landing. Richard didn’t bother moving. He allowed the flames to engulf him in a fiery ball. The flames looked almost liquid against him, licking up his torso and around his face like water. Richard threw his arms wide with a maniacal laugh that rang over the screaming fireworks and the roar of the flames. The flame receded, becoming a light blue glow before going out. Jake clicked the trigger a few times before he realized it was out of fuel. The pack felt much lighter. Hollingsworth, once again, vanished.

Two flames. And me, caught in the middle, already burning.

It flickered like candlelight, then roared like wildfire. Aria saw her past—her husband’s rage, her escape, the night she entered the Grove. She saw Luna crying in the dark. She saw herself bleeding, broken, afraid. The flame whispered. “You were weak.” Aria stepped forward. “I survived.” The flame bowed. — The second flame rose. Power. It surged like lightning, sharp and seductive. Aria saw herself crowned—marks flaring, armies kneeling. Kaelion at her side. Lucien behind her. Luna glowing like a star.

This time, I allowed myself to fully embrace the power coursing through my veins, feeling it surge forth like a raging inferno. "Ignis!" I cried out, my voice trembling with determination. And then, in a burst of brilliance, the fabric erupted into flames, dancing with a fierce intensity that illuminated the room. My heart swelled with pride as I watched the fire consume the fabric, and then the next paper, leaving nothing but a smoldering heap in its wake. But my triumph was short-lived as the flames, fueled by an untamed power, began to spread.

Enough. I step closer and the air shifts. The nurse gasps softly as a familiar green flame begins to move from my skin. I inhale deeply, focusing on the burn deep within me. The fire that sent Wendigos fleeing. The flames that rejected their venom. The power that feels like it’s becoming something more. I reach for the warrior’s hand. And unleash it. Flames flood the room - cleansing, defiant, divine… Let the reckoning begin.

I hold my arms to my sides and call to the flames. The flames seemingly turn in my direction, and I brace myself, preparing for the flames to hit me in the chest. The icy pain of the flames hits me in the chest. I close my eyes, trying to ignore the pain until the flames from the buildings begin to extinguish around me. I open my eyes and breathe in a sigh of relief. The fire is almost gone. I call out one last time for the flames to come to me, and they do. The remaining flames hit me in the chest with such force that it causes me to drop to my knees. I turn around, look at the fading figure, and offer her a smile.

"Papa, can I use fire now?" asked Tang Tang. "Yes, you can use it when I tell you to." "Great! Finally, I can use fire now!" Tang Tang let out a cry of joy, and two golden flames of fire appeared in her eyes, burning and jumping wildly. They finally turned into two strings of fire in the air and shot toward the iron that blocked the exit. Under the fire of Eyes of Phoenix exerted by Tang Tang, a block of iron about one cubic meter was cut down from the solid obstacle like tofu cut by a knife and fell on the ground immediately.

I waited for the fire to scorch me to crisp, but it was as if a barrier was built between me and the fire. I parted one eye open, and saw Iris in front of me, her back against me, hair floating like wings in the cloud. She raised her right hand against the flames, feet parted shoulder-width. Only the heat brushed past my face, while she withstood the flames without a singe on her hair. What is this girl,anyway? What other surprises does she have under her bushel?

I shut my eyes, sighing deeply, then tossed the torch into the pyre, red and blue flames engulfed it, blurring my sight because it was the only thing I could see at that moment. I stood there for what felt like an eternity, watching as the flames consumed what was left of my family. Tears blurred my vision, running uncontrollably down my face—until a low, predatory growl shattered the silence behind me. “Mine!”

She glanced at the fountain first before she looked at Theo. "I wanted to show you this special and sacred place in hopes that you will understand me and the way we live, even just for a little." Theo said with all seriousness. Maddie just nodded to urge him to continue. "This flame was revived when the war from a long time ago was put to an end. Since then, this flame was not on the verge of dying out." "Wait." Maddie even put her hand up to stop Theo from speaking. "What does the war have to do with the flame? Is the war about putting water in it?" Maddie was serious but Theo chuckled on her question which made her brows knot.
