“Wait, what? Wasn’t he there the whole time?”
“Mostly.” Monica examined her perfectly manicured nails. “He had to fly back for a few days. Family stuff.”
“Family stuff, in the middle of your trip?”
“Sierra.” Monica sighed like she was explaining something very obvious to a child. “He’s married, okay? I told you that already.”
My mouth actually fell open. “You did not tell me that.”
“I definitely told you.”
“Monica, you did not tell me he was married.”
“Okay, well, now you know.” Monica waved a hand again. “It’s not that deep. He’s basically checked out of that marriage. He just has to keep up appearances for his kids, for now.”
