When everyone started filtering out, I lingered, picking up a glass of orange juice I didn’t intend to drink, waiting for the right moment.
Lindsay was in the kitchen, stacking plates in the sink, her blonde hair pulled back in a loose bun. She looked tired, despite the glow she’d put on for the crowd. I leaned against the counter, crossing my arms. “So, you’re really doing this, huh?” I said, keeping my voice even, though it felt like a storm was brewing inside me.
She glanced up, her blue eyes narrowing slightly. “Doing what, Max?”
“Getting married. To Matt.” I tilted my head, studying her. “Come on, Lindsay. You and I both know this isn’t you. What happened to you and Gideon?”
