Brianna chipped in. I turned to her with raised brows and scoffed. "You've never considered me perfect enough. There was always a flaw you found in me. Well tough news, I'm not a perfect kid, not like Oscar or near him. I'm fucking flawed. I'm sick in the head and physically and I control it to try and give you what you want but you just don't fucking see it. All you do is freaking damage me. Reputation this, reputation that, do I flaw your reputation that much?" I asked scoffing. I was hurt but my tired, low tone sounded calmer than the rage erupting inside me. "I tried my best! I just want to be a normal teenager. You let Oscar be and do whatever he wants but me? Es eso asi?" I bit my lip

… … The taste is… bitter. Maybe more sugar? … Almost there, maybe just a little more cream and-! Perfect! The taste is just what I like most, so within seconds, I'm drinking as much as I can, desperate to keep the wonderful taste in my mouth. "Hey, hey! Alright Aka sweetie, calm down!" My immersive drinking is interrupted by a laughing voice, "Geez, you're chugging that down so fast! You like it?"

He wanted to see her in soft or bright colors, with a sparkle in her eyes, not dull and lifeless. “It suits you,” he said, in a low, almost cruel voice. He didn’t know why he said that; it wasn’t his intention. After all, he wanted her like this. Broken. Dull. That had been the goal from the start, but as he looked at her, so withered and lifeless, he realized something he hadn’t expected to feel. There was no victory in seeing her that way. No joy, no pleasure. Just a bitter weight in his chest.

And Joel wanted neither. “Do you remember the first day we met?’ he started, as their table got cleared of the second course, and their dessert of ice cream and cake arrived. Rina took a spoonful of her preferred chocolate flavor and closed her eyes as it melted on her tongue. She loved the tinge of bitterness that hid in its taste, and how it remained at the back of her throat. Weird as it sounded, since Rina was a kid, she loved to remind herself with every spoon that life was just that way – a beautiful blend of sweet and bitter.

She always does when she thinks I’m unraveling—as if warm tea and quiet care can fix something this deep. I cross the room and pick up the cup, the warmth seeping into my palm. I bring it to my lips and take a slow sip. It’s sweet. Too sweet. But beneath that sweetness… there’s something else. Something I can’t quite place. Bitter. Not strong enough to make me stop—but enough to make my brow furrow slightly as I swallow. “…weird,” I murmur, glancing down at the cup as if it might explain itself before shrugging it off.

Is cocktail drink always this unpleasant? This tasted so bitter! I guessed Chris understood the oblivious side of me as his face was beamed with a wicked smirk. “Hot down the throat, right?” He asked before emptying another content into my glass. Damn it! I’ve always thought these darn alcoholic drinks would have a sweet taste to them but no! It's just a fucking bitter crap. “How do you guys manage having this like it’s some sort of water? It’s damn bitter” I murmured, squeezing my face in disgust as its taste lingered on my throat.

Little Miss Spitfire bursts through the door again, her face pulled up in a tight grim. I am sure she is trying so hard to not scream at me. She bounces forward, stretching the cup in the air. I grab it and take a sip. “Good one.” I say, and continue typing. The coffee tastes great; the right amount of sugar fits in. Coffee is dark and bitter, but with enough sugar, it covers the bitterness so all that remains is just the sweet savour on your tongue. “Sugar is healthy.” Her voice chirps in my head, her smile flashing through my memory.

It tasted quite sweet. For me, my bitter days were long over. Forevermore, my life would definitely be as sweet as this latte.
