He smiled softly at Matthew. “I am glad that you decided to keep your anger at bay.”

He paused for a while, then continued to speak. "I work for an organization called the GOH,Guardians of the Hex. We fight all sort of bad, human and non human. We use advanced technology and combat to fight our enemies" he emphasized. Confusion struck me.I didn't know how to react. I felt proud of my father, I also felt angry at him for abandoning his family to save the world. As I lifted my gaze, I saw my father looking back at me, I smiled, hoping he could not see the anger within me as I was embarrassed to show my true feelings to people I hadn’t known that long.

Suddenly, the harsh, blinding beam of a high-powered tactical flashlight cut through the darkness, pinning Zara and Leo against the wall. Zara shielded Leo's eyes, squinting against the glare. Behind the beam of light, three men dressed in full black tactical gear stepped forward. They weren't police. They weren't security. They were ghosts. "Ms. Frost," the lead man said. His voice was distorted by a voice modulator, sounding metallic and demonic. "Let go of the boy, and you get to walk out of here alive." Zara’s blood turned to ice. She backed up until her spine hit the concrete wall, pushing Leo entirely behind her body, acting as a human shield.

He just stood there in the office. The city lights blinked at him like a thousand mocking eyes, like they already knew. The gala memories wouldn’t leave him, the gunshot, glass raining down, the sting in his ears. Over and over, the moment looped, carving itself deeper until it felt like his skull had been branded.
