"I'll be right beside you no matter what you need. You putting off your master’s this semester?"

He was the hockey legend who'd gone semi-pro before a knee injury brought him back home to coach at our high school. I'd been away at boarding school, so I'd never met him. Until move-in day for my senior year equipment pickup. "Come on, Scar, I need to grab my gear," Jake said, pulling me toward the athletic complex. "Theo's usually there on Saturdays."

She announced and the boys giggled excitedly. "We've finally seen a beautiful girl who wants to play basketball." I chuckled. I knew she was just bluffing, she could not play basketball. "I don't know, she doesn't seem like a basketball player." I answered. He nudged me with an elbow. "She's your friend, right?" He asked and I nodded. His basketball jersey was drenched with sweat. My eyes rested on Jake who was drowned in the game. The ball was bouncing against the cemented surface as Jake dribbled it skillfully. His thick muscled arms flexed rhythmically as he handled the ball. The red baggy basketball vest exposed his veiny muscular arms and a whisper of his chest. A thick sheen of sweat had dampened the fabric of his upper back, his face was equally sluicing with perspiration. Damp locks of his golden-brown hair had clung to the sides of his head.
