“We’re here to honor our friend.” “How did you know him?” Jake asked, frowning at his hand as though wondering if the flask had vanished into thin air. “College, actually,” Caleb replied. “We were both going for a medical degree.” Jake snorted again. “Jake…” the coach murmured in a warning tone. “What? Will could have gone to the big leagues. He wanted to. But Daddy interfered again,” Jake said nastily. “Mr. Masterson is grieving.” The coach took him by the shoulders. “Come on, let’s get some air.”

It was Mike’s extra varsity jersey, a deep navy and gold fabric that swallowed my frame but proudly displayed the name WELLER and the number 0 across my back. ​"Look at you," Jake grinned, leaning over from the seat beside me, a massive, unbothered smirk on his face. Chad sat on my other side, lazily spinning a spare basketball between his fingers. "The ghost officially has a haunting permit. I think Weller’s chest is going to explode before the whistle even blows." ​"Shut up, Jake," I muttered, though my cheeks flushed a furious pink. I looked down at the court, my eyes immediately tracking the towering, dominant figure warming up near the key.

Blake said confidently. “Rest assured. We will triumph.” Jake said adamantly. “Fine, I’ll be visiting a friend tomorrow and will be in the area, so I’ll drop by and see how it’s going firsthand,” Blake said, pondering the situation, and saw an opportunity to visit Daren West to see how his training is progressing.

“I don’t know. He moved out west somewhere. He only makes contact via email. If I don’t deliver you to him, he’ll just find someone else to take you out.” Jake huffed out a laugh. “He can try. I do this shit for a living, that’s the part you don’t understand. Do you know what I did three nights ago? I took out three drug dealers setting up shop in my town, without blinking an eye. We might share a last name, but that’s all you are to me.”

We pull apart and I stare pridefully at them, three brothers, just like four years ago except we have come so far and we are not the same people anymore. "How's the study going?" I ask Jake and he shrugs casually. Jake is doing his masters in web designing and networking at Stanford University and has been gone for months because he got a job close to the university and he only returned to be at my wedding. "It's really going great, Taylor." I give him a deep double meaning look before asking, "Is there a girl you want me to meet?" A blush appears on his cheeks and nod. "Her name is Blake, Blake Noble."

“Yeah, but I gotta ditch before noon. Amy nagged me into stopping at Mr. Trung’s for some blueberries on the way home.” “I’ve got basketball over at the Utica Y tonight, so I have to leave early, too,” Kevin added smoothly. As usual, his excuses slipped gently into the conversation. But Jake ignored Kevin’s excuse and spat on the ground. “Mr. Trung. Fuckin’ gook bastard. Get blueberries somewhere else, why dontcha? Wouldn’t trust that gook sumbitch with my fuckin’ shit.”

Maddie joined in the fun as per Andrew's request, showcasing her skills with an impressive slam dunk, which left everyone cheering. "I didn't know you could play basketball," Jake commented as Maddie joined him after leaving the mini basketball court. He passed her a bottle of water as he spoke. She chuckled, still panting from the adrenaline rush playing basketball with the kids had brought about. "Well, I can play but umm, I am not good at it. I just don't suck," she pointed out and he chuckled. She echoed his chuckle.

He knew that perhaps Marcus' men might be around. Jade wanted to show him that he isn't concerned about his former family anymore, so he can't use that to threaten him again. “Wow, see who is making a marvelous entrance here. Jade Westwood, the runaway criminal. It doesn't surprise me that he's defending the son and brother of a criminal because he himself is also a criminal. SECURITY!!!” Jake said sarcastically but angrily called the securities at the end. Jade chuckled at Jake, shocking everyone as to why he was laughing.

The half ended just after the ball went through the uprights, and the Eagles ran into the locker room leading three to zip. "Do you want anything from the concession?" Jake stood up, stretching. I watched him, trying to look at him through eyes that didn't only see Leo. Yeah, Jake was cute, in a geeky, hipster sort of way. His reddish-brown hair was a little longer than I liked on a guy, but his eyes were bright blue and wide. Now they gazed down at me as his question lingered in the air.

Jake replied with an apologetic smile, "Sir, I didn't realize you were so well-informed about the situation—my mistake. Go ahead. Nobody wants this building anyway." Of course, Andrew was aware of the matter. After all, he had helped orchestrate Atlas's downfall. He gestured for Lauren to wait and asked Jake, "Since this building is now under West End and South City's control, are you working for them?" Jake shook his head. "No, I used to work for Northern District. I had nowhere to go after Mr. Giordano got taken out at his suburban villa while meeting his mistress. I ended up joining Madam Vostokoff's West End organization, and they assigned me to sell this building."
