At last, he said tiredly, "Alright. I won't bother you anymore."
Hearing this, a wave of relief washed over me, as if I had finally broken free.
In contrast, Bernard looked drained, full of regret and grief.
As I flagged down a cab, his voice rang out behind me. "Jenna! I'm sorry. It was my fault."
After three long years, it was finally over.
I finally heard Bernard's most sincere apology. I didn't turn around. I just lifted a hand and waved. "Goodbye, Bernard."
From here on, I would keep moving forward, chasing a bright future that belonged only to me.
