"What do we do?" Ace was quiet for a long moment. When he spoke, his voice was heavy with regret. "There's only one thing we can do." James was convulsing now, his body fighting against the magic consuming it. Black blood poured from his mouth and nose. His skin was cracking like dried earth, revealing the pulsing darkness beneath.

His expression was one of pure delight. "All right, witch," he spat. Damion pulled forward a small stool and pushed it directly in front of me before he sat down. "I'll entertain you for a bit." "Once upon a time, there was a man who could turn himself into a wolf. That man fell in love with a beautiful maiden who danced naked during a full moon and could turn flowers into gemstones." His voice was mocking as he spun his fairytale. I raised an eyebrow at his story, still not understanding its relevance.
