Most people were bundled up in their houses, but it was nice to see a few out and about. Drake walked into the gym and pulled his cap off, shaking it out and shivering. His allergies were gone, and life could resume as normal. The forest is more active today. Jasper looks up through the holes in the treetops and he sees the birds flying high, moving North. Jasper fights the urge to roll his eyes. He clenches his teeth and prepares for what his father will say. "I know your mother spoke to you already. There is no debate on the matter. You will go to Viptan and you will find your mate there. You must partner with another Xefol. There is no other way."

Above us stretched a sky that wasn’t night — pale and shivering, filled with faint, floating lights like drifting stars. We stood at the edge of a vast cavern, the river now a thin ribbon of silver winding through grass that glowed faintly underfoot. Strange flowers pulsed with soft light in clusters along the rocks. Cassian whistled low. “All right. I’ll admit it — that’s beautiful. Creepy as hell, but beautiful.” Malachai’s expression had gone distant, awed. “The Spirit Vale,” he murmured. “I thought it was legend.” Vale’s jaw tightened. “Legends are born from truth.”

I stroked her cheek slowly, warmth filling my chest at the sight of my Goddess. “My Goddess, wake up. We’re here.” Just like Sin predicted, Jess’s eyes fluttered open, a sleepy smile blooming across her lips. Then awe took over her face as she inhaled the crisp mountain air. “It’s beautiful here, Apollo. Wait — is that water?” Beyond the building, a waterfall thundered down the mountains, splitting into smaller falls that fed a crystal pool below. The mist kissed the air sweetly, cool and refreshing. The others spread blankets across the grass near the water. The estate’s mountain retreat sat behind it — spa, hot tub, restrooms, lounge rooms, a kitchen, dining areas. Everything.

He wasn’t moving. Vale grabbed my wrist. “We need to go.” “What—what just happened?” “Later.” He pulled me through a side door into a narrow hallway that smelled like rust and rain. My legs felt like jelly, but fear was stronger. Outside, the storm hadn’t let up. Rain hammered down as we ran through the alley, puddles splashing under our shoes. I could barely keep up with him. “Who was that?” I shouted over the rain. “Division agent.”

Keller’s POV “Jas, where are you now?” I make a hard left as we get closer to town. “I’m outside the gate of this community called Crystal Lake. It's to the south, about twenty minutes outside of town. Zara said she wanted to go to the hospital here. The medic said they are familiar.” I’ve never heard Jasper sound so worried in my life. “They let the ambulance in, but they wouldn’t let me past the front gate.” “Yeah. We know where it is. It's a private community with their own hospital. Mom has friends there. Just wait for us. We'll get you in.” The light turns red, forcing me to brake hard. “Thank you, Jasper.”

A scouting trip to Mirror Vale. There was a name on that list — another potential survivor. Mirror Vale had been notorious for being cold, half empty, and perilous. Perfect. I agreed immediately. I needed the space. Caspian offered to come. Elara didn’t object. Lyra gave me a few grounding charms and then stared as if she wanted to ask something, but didn’t. Yet by midday, we had begun skiing down the hill. Caspian didn’t talk much. Neither did I.

He just looked at me and then looked at Jasper and back at me, then he nodded. “I guess my work here is done, I should be going now,” he said and then looked at Jasper. Jasper steps up and reaches his hand at Valen. “Thank you for all of the help, Mr. Craige,” Jasper said. Valen accepted his hand and they shook hands. He just nodded and then looked at me. He started walking away already with his guards, I watched him enter his car. He didn’t even look back once anymore. This is the end of our story, I may or may not see him anymore but I know that I can’t step in their territory anymore. His wonderful paradise.
