At the end of the hall, the door to Marco’s secondary security outpost stood slightly ajar. We stepped inside, leaving the thumping bass muffled behind the heavy walls. The small room was bathed in the harsh, blue-white light of a half-dozen monitors. Marco sat at the center console, his silver mask pushed up onto his forehead, his dark eyes locked onto a cascading wall of encrypted code. Leo and Jennifer stood behind him. Jennifer looked breathtaking—and entirely lethal—in a crimson gown and a mask made of actual raven feathers, her posture rigid with a fierce, reclaimed strength.
