It actually felt like time stalled… conversations nearby cutting off mid-sentence, movement stuttering, eyes snapping toward us all at once. Jaxx stepped forward. Slowly. Deliberately. Each step precise, controlled, like he was walking through water that parted just for him. He crouched just enough to look down at Marco, who was groaning now, blinking hard, panic finally burning through his expression. Jaxx’s voice didn’t rise. Marco pausing his laughter, followed his line of sight to the man ogling Isabelle, especially on her breasts before he leaned in to kiss her. “Ooou! He should not have done that,” Marco said in a teasing accent. “That's Xavier. One of the men in there with you on a meeting is his elder brother. That's the one who you're trying to convince to help you get intels on Alexei.” Alessandro’s knuckles pop as he clenched his fists.

By noon, she was at Marco’s apartment. He was still half-asleep, hair matted, shirtless beneath a loose hoodie. His gaming setup glowed faintly behind him in his studio—an obsessive tangle of monitors, cords, and LED strips. It smelled like Red Bull, burnt toast, and overpriced cologne. “You look like hell,” he said, blinking at her. Dominique dropped her backpack on the floor and stepped inside. “I need you to hack a ghost.” Marco arched a brow. “Define ‘ghost.’”

Her own gun clattered to the floor as she crumpled back, blood spraying on my face. Marco didn't stop. He swung the gun and bashed it into Kason's face again and again. Blood sprayed from the repeated impacts, and Kason's body went limp, collapsing to the floor unconscious. I stayed frozen, my heart pounding. In less than fifteen seconds, Marco had neutralized both of them. He turned to me, eyes blazing, as he ran to me and yanked at the restraints holding me. His words were a distant murmur as I stared at him, unable to look away.
