Lana's POV The air in the study turned to glass. Ronan’s quiet question hung between us, sharp enough to cut. My gaze flicked from his stony face back to the glowing screen, to those damning words: She’s just playing with you. All the confusion, the fear, the swirling emotions of the past week crystallized into a single, cold point of betrayal. “Who is Jess?” I asked, my voice deceptively flat. He didn’t move from the doorway, a silent sentinel blocking my exit. “A contact. From a long time ago.”

“Excuse me?” “I’m not running again.” The diner was very quiet. From somewhere outside came the muffled sound of a truck engine and the ordinary distant noise of the street distracting us while the conversation was happening inside. Gia stared at me. “Nina. Jessica is not some minor complication. She has power now, real power, the kind that came from what you accidentally did to her. She is not the discarded Luna who showed up crying at borders anymore. She is something different and something actively dangerous and she wants to find you.”

The dress was all she wore. The men howled, pounding the tables. "Take it off! Take it off!" Jessica watched gleefully. This was the seductive woman who had ensnared Stanley and Samuel. Tonight, she would be reduced to a cheap spectacle. Phone in hand, Jessica began recording. This footage would ruin Wendy. The brilliant Dr. Ceylan, the untouchable Jolin, would be exposed as a tramp. Her reputation would shatter. "Let the show begin," Jessica muttered.

Then the armies erupted again—wolves howling in triumph, vampires screeching in rage. Nolan stumbled back toward Ethan, sweat and blood streaking his face. "That’s one general down. But three more are still out there." Nolan said panting. Stella’s voice rang across the field, steady and urgent. "And they’ll only get stronger now. The King won’t like this embarrassment." Jessica shifted back into human form, standing beside Ethan. Her body ached, but her eyes blazed with determination. "Let him be angry. Let him know we’re coming for him." She said.

She feared she'd misheard, yet she had indeed heard it clearly. "There's no mistake!" Trudy's voice rang out firmly across the open office. "Chief Bronson, Mrs. Bronson could never be wrong. Thank you and Mrs. Bronson. I will not let you both down." Jessica had been imprisoned for dereliction of duty, and it had terrified them all. Whispers from Nolan hinted that Jessica had entertained thoughts she shouldn't have. Whatever small, secret ambitions some of them might have harbored vanished in that instant, replaced by deepened respect and caution.

JESSICA'S POV. A WEEK LATER. "Jessica," Daniel called from outside while I recited my prepared lines one last time in the living room mirror. "I'm Melissa and I'm an environmentalist who loves animals, children and works for an NGO." "Jessica please!" "I'm coming," I screamed, giving myself one last glance in the mirror.

“She used to work as a detective. She loves undercover projects. I was one of the candidates for that position, but I think it suits her more. She really likes kids.” All this new information was making her dizzy. “I know this is a whole new world, but I didn’t think I would have to deal with this. Ugh. My head hurts. Why would even some people give threats like it’s normal? Is Nikolai doing something illegal? I don’t understand why he would have some enemies.” Jessica was silent again. She’s a good actress, and she is good at concealing whatever it is she is thinking. Jessica’s silence, as Belle observed, always meant something.

“What about Otsana? I didn’t come here to get comfortable, Jessica. I came to take her back.” Jessica sighed, her expression patient but tired. “Relax, Ralph. I’ll go get her for you. You can’t go there yourself. There are guards everywhere, but I can get past them. I’m Noah’s sister, remember?” Before I could argue, Jasper stepped forward, a mischievous grin on his face. “You’re amazing, Jessica. Seriously. You’re brave, smart, and honestly… beautiful.” Jessica’s cheeks turned pink as she glanced at him shyly. “Thank you, Jasper. That’s… sweet of you.”
