She’s my friend from school. Joel smiled and carefully placed a pillow behind Primrose's back to make her more comfortable before speaking. "Alright, I'll grab my laptop and come down here to work. I'll be by your side. Wait for me a bit, okay?" Primrose nodded slightly, and Joel went upstairs to get his laptop before sitting down next to Primrose. Primrose continued to watch the movie, while Joel attended to his tasks at home. Despite the lack of communication between them, Primrose felt an unusual sense of tranquility.

Same old Christmas lights some idiot never took down. Ellie taps her fingers on the steering wheel, humming along to a Christian station playing something acoustic and too cheerful. She keeps glancing back at us like we’re adorable. “You boys have barely said two words.” “We’re conserving energy,” Tim says. His voice is low. He doesn’t look at me. There’s no need too. Ellie wants us to be friends. Real close. If only she knew how close we already are. Just not in the safe-for-family-dinner way she’s hoping for.

He looked up at her with a sweet little smile. She put down the menu. "I thought I understood back then why you didn't tell me who you are, but I don't think I really understood before now.
