He descended, his steps measured.
He stopped before us, looking down at Keila. She looked up, not shrinking back, but with open, curious assessment.
“You are Keila,” he stated.
“Yes. You are Mr. Luther. You build strong frames.”
He blinked, momentarily thrown by her opening salvo. “I… procure appropriate structural support, yes.” He looked at me. “The call begins in twelve minutes. The library annex is prepared.”
He led us not to the formal, austere main library, but to a smaller, brighter room lined with books that actually looked read. A large, low table had been cleared. A glass of milk and a small plate of perfect strawberries waited.
