Chaotic Obsession
The sunlight was sharp across the driveway, and there he was—Johnny—standing by the truck with John on his shoulders, both of them laughing, holding a bag from the local diner.
She slipped her sandals on and stepped out into the breeze.
As she approached, John slid down from his dad’s shoulders and ran toward her.
“Mama! Daddy got me French fries and a milkshake, and we saw baby goats! They were so tiny!”
“Tiny, huh?” she smiled, scooping him into her arms as Johnny approached.
He held out the paper bag and the drink holder. “Got you one, too.”
“You bribing me with curly fries?”
“Worked on him,” Johnny said, reaching out and brushing a strand of hair from her face.
