Tossing back what was left in my drink, I put the glass down and saunter over to Jax. “Hi, I am Noel.” I introduce myself before I lose the fake courage, I have going on right now. Jax looks up at me and his eyes are a piercing blue. He is very handsome in a rugged way, and even through he is shorter than me I feel the faint traces of arousal spark within my body. I said as the noise got louder. "Alright, I just mind linked Xander. He is coming." Johnny said as he sat back down. We heard a loud bang outside before all noises stopped. "Xander still has some paperwork to do and then he will be back," Johnny said after a few minutes. I couldn't help but yawn. "Go lay down I will stay out here until Alpha returns." I did as Johnny suggested. I walked to the room and laid in the soft bed and fell asleep fast.

But that wasn’t going to happen, because he was padding back and forth in his bare feet, shouting into his cell phone. “You can tell Krebbs he doesn’t have a single working brain cell if he thinks those quarterly numbers are good enough to justify what he’s asking. What? NO, I don’t give a damn about last quarter’s numbers, everyone knows they were inflated – ” Over by the wall, Johnny was dressed immaculately in a suit and tie. He saw me come in, smiled politely, and jerked his chin up a tiny bit as a greeting, like whassup. I blushed in embarrassment and grasped the top of my terrycloth robe together to make sure no more skin was showing than absolutely necessary.

There was a look on his face—focused, calm, determined. And beautiful. God, he looked beautiful. Not in the way she’d once thought of boys as beautiful. Not clean-cut or perfect. But steady. Safe. Hers. Her eyes burned unexpectedly, and she wiped at them before stepping into the room. “You’ve been at it for hours,” she said softly. Johnny looked up, surprised, then smiled. “You ever seen what’s under that wallpaper? Looks like someone let a drunk raccoon do interior design in the seventies.” She laughed quietly, wrapping her arms around herself.

He always found her nicknames lame for she was gifted with the most beautiful, bright and warm name which suited her the best. Joy, Joy, Joy, he could never get tired of it.

“I—uh—thanks. You look… shampoo commercial-ish.” He throws his head back laughing. “I’ll take that.” We sway. His thumb rubs tiny circles on my side. I glance up and see Chaz and Kevin cheering dramatically from our table. Kevin mimes fainting into her lap. “Min,” Johnny murmurs, leaning in close, “I’m leaving for college in a few weeks. I’m gonna miss this place. People like you.” I blink. “People like me?” “Yeah,” he says. “Real ones. Fun ones. People who make it easy to breathe.”

When she reached the gym, Johnny was already there, spinning a blade between his fingers and cracking jokes at Cole, who smoked by an open window despite the posted signs. “Another day in paradise,” Johnny said brightly, flashing Sophie a grin. “You ready to spill some blood yet? Because I am.” He mimed licking his lips. “Like a kid in a candy store. Except the candy fights back.” Sophie snorted despite herself. Shiloh appeared at her side, hair tied back, expression dry. “Ignore him. He gets off on his own hype.” “That’s not all I get off on,” Johnny quipped, earning a thrown towel from Cole.
