My usual appearance always carried grace, poise, and power, the kind that commanded attention.
But now? I look like the shell of a woman who once owned herself.
"Your face, Lavanda... you've been crying," he asks quietly, his eyes flickering to the soiled tissues scattered across my desk.
I sniff. "Red, you were talking about a video!"
"Why were you crying?" Red presses, his eyes sharp, searching my mind.
I fumble under his watchful eyes, avoiding his gaze, staring instead at my desk.
"Just answer my question!" My voice cracks. Vulnerability is a luxury I can't afford - not with anyone, not even with him.
