CHAPTER 57 — The door didn’t look threatening. That was the problem. It wasn’t jagged or bleeding rune-light or screaming like the other seams. It was clean. Smooth. Pale stone etched with a single, familiar symbol—the split crescent I’d seen my entire life without ever being taught its meaning. Home. Maya's Pov I woke up to the smell of cinnamon and coffee. For a moment, I forgot where I was. Then everything came rushing back. The estate. Derek. Last night's text messages that I read at least fifty times before falling asleep. I grabbed my phone. No new messages. Part relief, part disappointment. Downstairs, the living room was in chaos. Logan could feel heat rise in his cheeks as he felt himself getting both embarrassed and confused. Joy stopped for a second to look around and then she realized that her house had been ransacked and there was no one to be found anywhere. Joy instantly began to run through the big house, checking every single room for any clues at all, but there was nothing but destruction. She finally came to Miss Jessie's room, that's where she found the note that was written in her favorite lipstick on her vanity mirror. It simply said...'Uncle Benny was here.." Joy's blood ran cold and her eyes got dark. She was more pissed off at that moment than she had ever been before in her life.

Joy's body hits the wall and creates a giant dent and crack in the ceiling. "That girl you were sweet-talking was a potential Queen. She was a target. Why didn't you get rid of her?" Louejone crouches at the counter, his hand choking Joy to the wall. Yeli watches from the side, using her abilities to send spiders to spy on the said person. "I'm sorry, I thought she was just an aurum-" Joy squeaks as Louejone's grip tightens around her neck. "I'm putting you on death row." The man dismisses, letting go of Joy and letting her crash to the ground. Yeli and Louejone exit the shop, leaving a confused Jayson who just woke up and Joy crying on the floor.

“Stay out of this, Joy.” Joy stood up. Unbothered. “I would,” she said lightly. “But this is my business.” Veronica frowned. “What do you mean?” Joy stepped closer. Her gaze steady. “Because I’m the only one here who understands what happens next.” Silence. Veronica’s breathing quickened. “Then say it,” she challenged. “What happens next?” Joy smiled slightly. “You speak,” she said.
