My phone buzzed one more time. A final message. This one had no video. Just words. Tick tock. Your move.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

He put the cakes onto the counter, flicked on the lights, and started tearing through each room, shouting, "My Luna, where are you? Don't play games with me, sorry about today, alright?" He kept calling out, voice bouncing off the walls: "My Luna, there was real something urgent today, I swear. Coming out so I can explain." He couldn't mindlink me, so he yanked his phone out of his pocket, dialing my number. "Sorry, the number you dialed is powered off. Please try again later." He called many times, the same damn voice. Back in the living room, he spotted the papers on the table. He raced over and checked it: a goddamn severance decree.

Or am I just possibly overthinking things right now. Maybe I heard him wrong… maybe I didn’t. But, one thing’s for sure right now—I need to use that bathroom immediately.

I just nod my head in agreement, then he drives away.
