Just try to understand the pain that person is going through. Don’t force a smile or laughter. The worst thing people do is to think that someone smiling or laughing means healed. No. The people who committed suicide that night were all smiles and laughter the same day. So don’t be an idiot. Don’t put a goal that is not a goal. Healing can happen without a smile or laughter. Let that person be. Don’t force anything. If that person wants to just sit on the stairs silently, just sit there with that person, silently.

"That sounds like something a Mage would say right before everything explodes." A corner of his mouth lifts. The smile is small but it is real. "Maybe," he concedes. "But it is still true." I study him for a moment then sigh heavily and let the laptop slide shut. The weight of it closing is almost physical. The weight of giving up the search for now. "Fine," I concede reluctantly. "Five minutes." He smiles clearly counting it as a victory. Counting my willingness to step away as progress. "I'm just glad to see you smile," he says softly. "Seeing you smile reminds me that you are still in there somewhere beneath all of this."

I leaned my head back slightly, closing my eyes for just a second, letting everything settle, every word, every crack, every inconsistency. Then I opened them again. And smiled. “Now,” I said quietly, “we stop listening… and start breaking things.”

Something warm and involuntary, the specific expression of someone who has been surprised into a feeling they were not performing, the best kind of smile because it arrived before the person decided to have it. She could not stop it, I smiled too. I could not stop that either. We sat on the steps outside the official building in the lamplight, both of us smiling at the same time, which was something I could not remember the last time it had happened. Eight months possibly. Maybe longer.

I said. " Let's eat, the food might get cold, "I added. We went to the table and continued eating. I cannot remove the smile on my face, every time I took a spoon full of rice my lips automatically curved into a smile. "Stop smiling, just focus on eating," Lee said. "I'm sorry, I can't help it," I answered. We continued eating, it was amazing when the unknown person like me found someone who understands me, who knew when I'm mad, sad, irritated and happy. I'm happy because I was able to find Joash.

I want him to smile but. "stop... stop thinking so much... I will never do anything which you don't want. I know in just some time you went through a lot. I know you need time to process all this... you can take all the time you need. You love me... and that thought alone is enough to keep me happy for the rest of my life. So stop worrying and smile..." he placed two fingers near corner of my lips and softly pulled them up to make me smile... and I did... why is he so perfect? "thank you..." I said and he kissed my forehead...
