“Anything at all.”
“What?”Her head snapped up, startled. “How would I know that?”
I waited. I didn’t move, didn’t breathe, only watched her fight herself. And then, her voice broke, spilling the truth she couldn’t cage.
“This isn't the right cabin,” she whispered. “There was a small bookshelf that held magazines and novels, and it's not here. The floors aren't the same shade too, and this isn't where we had that argument.”
The world went silent after that. My lungs burned, and even as my fists curled at my sides, nothing could compare to what Kiara was going through.
