Her skin prickled, a flush creeping up, and she hated how it felt right—stupidly, dangerously right.
The light swept again, missing them by a hair, and Ezra’s steps stopped—too near. “Gotcha,” he said, smug as hell, and metal scratched—her stomach dropped. The key. He’d snatched it. “This’ll hold me over. Don’t get cozy, though.”
Boots shuffled, pulling back slow, like he wanted them to squirm. Roman’s hand slipped off her, leaving her cold where he’d been, and he leaned out, checking the dark. “They’re leaving,” he said, voice taut. “We’ve got a window.”
