Aziel stared at me for a moment, then slowly crouched in front of me, rain dripping from the edge of his umbrella, tapping the leash on Knox, and it let out a warning growl.
“You really thought you were close, didn’t you?” he murmured.
My brows furrowed.
“The road,” he said casually, glancing toward the hill. “It doesn’t lead out of Canari Forest.”
My stomach dropped.
“It loops,” he continued, almost amused. “Right back to the estate. You were exactly where I wanted you.”
The world tilted.
“You weren’t escaping, kitten.” His lips curved slowly. “You were running in circles.”
For the first time, I understood that I had never been outside his reach. This was just the beginning of my misery.
