I'm gonna be real—most Kenji/Ben fics seem to revolve around the whole 'frenemies-to-lovers' blueprint. You've got the initial camp rivalry, the survival situation forcing them together, and then all that tension bubbling over. It's a classic.

What I find more interesting lately are the stories that ditch the dinosaur attacks as a crutch and focus on the quieter stuff. Like, Ben's anxiety versus Kenji's performative confidence. How Kenji's flirting might be a cover for his own insecurities about not being taken seriously, and Ben's bluntness actually cutting through that. The best fics I've read explore that shift—from allies to the person each relies on to feel grounded, or to feel brave. The emotional core is them becoming each other's missing piece in a world that's gone completely mad, which feels way more earned than instant attraction.

My favorite trope is post-rescue fics where they're both dealing with the trauma, and the only person who really gets it is the one who was there.
