“Well. This is unexpected.” Kai nodded stiffly. “Darius, this is Summer. And... Kai,” I said, my voice strained. “Summer’s uncle.” Darius raised an eyebrow. “Uncle?” He turned to Summer. “I thought he was your boyfriend for a second.” Summer laughed, wide-eyed. “Oh no! Ew, no offense, Kai.” “None taken,” Kai replied flatly. I stared at Darius. “Wait—you know him?” Darius gave a half-smile. “We’ve crossed paths in the business world.”

“Your father is going to talk about something important, stay here.” Darren sighed, he really wanted to take the girl away from this boring family gathering. But he couldn't help but listen to his father speak first. “We look like family, right Mr. Frank?” He was Adam Jarl, Alpha Pack Kyne, Darren's father. Of course before answering that question, Frank chuckled to break the ice. After all he thought it was a good signal to bring two families together. “Yeah, we're like two families already, Alpha Adam. I feel like we're very compatible in every way.”

I spun on my heels to get a look at the source of the voice "You were thinking out loud." "I spent over a thousand hours on that painting." The voice continued "E.A.D?" The words left my lips as I stared at the letters at the bottom of the painting "It's an acronym for Eugene Ari Darian." "Greek?" I scoffed, genuinely amused "A greek god actually," he corrected, arrogance clear in his tone with his head held up high "You are arrogant, you know that right?" I asked, not the least bit impressed "Okay, I'm sorry if I've been rude." His attempt at an apology was weak-hearted, he didn't mean it and I could sense it

He hasn't started walking yet, but I know it's coming soon. "He's over there." I point in their direction with my knife and get back to the task at hand. Geni bounces away, plopping herself down on the couch next to Erik. He looks at her and grins. I stop what I'm doing and watch them chat for a minute. "No," I say under my breath. "No way." "No way, what?" I hear behind me. I didn't even hear Daniel come in. "Look at Geni." Daniel puts his hands on my hips and rests his chin on my shoulder. He's silent for a few beats as we watch Geni and Erik talk and laugh and give each other small touches. "Is she…?" he starts. "Are they… flirting?"

He knows I'd have his head if something happened to you. So we better get back before he sends the militia after us." I quickly grab him and bring his head down to meet mine. "Soon. Just let me enjoy this first." I say, kissing him. Darius doesn't respond. Rather he brushes my hair away from my face as he returns my kiss. We continue to kiss for several more minutes until I can also hear Kenji's frantic mindlink to Darius. "You're right. He's terrified. I guess we better go. I'm sure he's probably aged ten years in our absence."

“Near the drink table. Blue suit.” Kaelen follows my gaze. The moment his eyes land on the man, his expression hardens. “You know him?” he asks quietly. I swallow. My throat feels dry. “Yes.” “Who is he?” I hesitate. Because saying his name still hurts. “His name is Darius.” Kaelen’s body goes still. “Darius… what?” he asks carefully. “Darius Vrynn.” Silence.
