Kiera pulled her hands free, stepping back. “No.”
“Kiera…”
“I said no, Darius.” Her voice was firm, absolute. “I’m done running. I ran five years ago and spent every day regretting it. I won’t run again, especially not when you and everyone I care about is fighting for survival.”
“This isn’t about pride or courage,” I argued. “This is about Eli having a parent who survives this night.”
“Then we both survive,” Kiera said stubbornly. “Or we both don’t. But I’m not abandoning you again. I can’t.”
