Beta Jax cleared his throat, turning to gesture to the man, who was now sitting rigid in his chair. "This is the Lycan King, Alpha Kenzo."

But as his boots reached the glass, his eyes caught a glimpse through the gap. He didn't invade their privacy, but he saw enough. He saw Draken holding her limp frame with reverence. He saw their discarded clothing scattered across the floor. He saw their foreheads touching in the firelight, and the genuine smile she gave the King—a smile she had never shown to a single soul in this palace, let alone to him. Kael froze, his handsome features hardening into an expression of pure malice. The gentle, understanding prince eroded. He finally understood the brutal reality, Ava was slipping away from him.

The other ran toward Mark, and the third was trying to get Trinity off the vampire she was currently devouring. I dodged the one that lunged after me and rushed toward Trinity. I snatched the other out of the air and slammed him into the ground, recognizing him as a member of the royal family. I caved in his chest with a vicious sneer, glad to be rid of him and hoping to be rid of the rest of the royal family by the end of the night.

He wanted to see King devastated. He wanted to drain the life from his eyes. But it seemed like he never would—because there was nothing left in them to take.

The King stood behind her, his hand still on her shoulder. “Not everything that burns is evil,” he said. “But neither is it good.” “Let her go,” Kael said. “You’re too late,” the King replied. “No,” Aria said softly. She stepped out from under the King’s hand. And turned. Kael’s breath caught. Because it wasn’t just Aria’s face anymore—it was hers, yes, but lined with fire and shadow. A queen’s face. A goddess’s.
