Kate POV Getting into the cars, Reid, one of our warriors, Louise, and I in the first car and the remaining warriors in the second car. We head out quickly not wanting to linger on the premises any longer. We had a long drive ahead of us and we had a mystery to solve on top of that.

I felt another kind of power as Damon touched me. Cassandra was back again, sneering at me as if she had just defeated me. “Won’t you say a word, banished mother of twins?” I grinned. Kael’s blue eyes locked on mine, soft but full of claim. “Those twin pups carry my blood. Come back to Shadow Moon with me. You belong to me!” My legs felt weak as he released that statement. It was like a command, but I could not obey immediately. Damon was here too.

I gazed at her hopefully. She acted as if she were glancing over her shoulder. "Oh, you're speaking to me? I figured you were speaking to a boomer who does, in fact, watch broadcast stations." I grunted to myself. Klaus was trouble in the worst kind of way. A pain-in-the-back-of-your-heart pretty-the kind of pretty that creeps into your system like fine whiskey and melts your bones to mush, your common sense thin-witty, sharp-tongued, obstinate, and emotional to the point of being on the edge of insane. She had no censor, no repression, and no fucks to give what other people thought of her.

Morticia announced. "Let me come with you," Jamie offered. "No, it'll be faster if I go alone," she insisted, getting into Ava's car to chase him down. Klaus headed straight to his mother's apartment. He pressed the doorbell twice, and when there was no reply, he punched in the code-it was his birthday. Josephine, who had been sipping juice, stepped out and looked surprised to see Klaus. "Baby?" she murmured, the nickname she used for him.

I tried my best not to even think of him during those months, and it felt like it was working. But seeing him now is bringing all of the memories back. Including the feelings that come with them.
