I blurt. "I did some digging on staff housing this morning, trying to find her before anyone else did. I wasn't the only one looking." His jaw tightens. "There's already talk. Some of the pack, the ones who take rank seriously, the ones who think an omega catching an Alpha's eye is some kind of insult to the natural order, they're saying somebody should teach her a lesson before it happens again." Something cold moves through my chest, sharper than the ache that's already there.

A person I had not known was in the same space as me commented, rousing me from my thoughts. My hands clench my cutlery, but still, I don’t turn around. “He will get over it soon. All Alpha’s are like that, aren’t they?
