“Because once you cross that line, you do not get to pretend things can go back to normal.” Dante sat up too, his bare feet hitting the floor. “Normal was an illusion,” he said. “I just did not know it yet.” He stood and walked to the window, pushing the curtain aside. The city was already awake, cars moving, people rushing into lives that felt simple compared to the mess unraveling inside his chest. “My uncle taught me everything about power,” he continued. “He always said information is currency. Control what people know, and you control what they do.”

I used all my strength to struggle, but she quickly controlled me with one hand.
