I’d told my sister, and everyone was on high alert so no one else was taken. The Guardians from Roatán were amazing to watch. Dr. Levi Morrow, the man who had been working with Christian on the Guardian Retransformation serum, was a genius, and I liked to spend time in the lab just watching him work on projects with Christian, though the latter would often do something creepy and freak me out so that I had to leave earlier than I’d like. But the Retransformation serum was ready to go, and the Roatán Guardians would be able to use it to become human again as soon as Annihilation was complete. For most of them, it was their motivation for involvement in this one last campaign.

John and Sarah froze, eyes wide in the dim glow of the runes. “Whatever that is... it’s coming for us,” Sarah said, voice shaking. John’s gaze darted around the chamber. Shapes moved in the shadows massive, twisted forms with glowing red eyes, creeping closer. “Bloodroot Guardians,” John whispered, dread creeping into his veins. These ancient protectors weren’t just legends. They were real and furious. “We have to get out. Now,” he urged, dragging Sarah to her feet. Their legs trembled, but adrenaline pushed them forward. They crawled through the narrowing cracks, the Guardians closing in.

He only laughed again, harder, louder, until it was all that could be heard. “Cut his head off, he has committed treason!” a Beta shouted. Guards moved, wrestling Korath to the ground, but he only grinned like a madman. “You’re already dead,” he whispered through his teeth while his eyes directed at Alpha Axel. Alpha Axel stood slowly, face darkening with shadow. “What new king, Korath?” Korath turned his head lazily from the floor, blood dripping from his lip as he smiled. “Cahir Cole of the Darksword Pack will take the throne .”

Heavy footsteps echoed upward from beneath the sanctuary. Closer. Closer. Then the first warrior emerged. A gigantic armored guardian stepped from the glowing chamber below, silver armor covering its massive body while ancient Lunar symbols burned across its chest. Its eyes glowed bright white beneath an enormous wolf-shaped helmet, and every movement radiated terrifying power. Another emerged behind it. Then another. And another. An army. The sanctuary’s hidden guardians had awakened. Kael blinked repeatedly. “Okay. That is admittedly the coolest thing I have ever seen.”

Eighteen warriors stood before me. My angelic guardians Gabriel, on his right stood Seph, his lieutenant. Behind them stood Malak, Ronin, Selene, Sariel, and Parisa. To the right stood my fallen guardians. Adrian standing proud. On his right stood his lieutenant Celestria. Behind them stood Ramiel, Louis, and Morgan. And finally to the left stood my human guardians. They’re not mere humans anymore, with gifts of their own and access to my powers they were demi-gods. Dean stood before his team, my acting general. Behind Dean stood, Nefertari, Briseis, Ramses, and Khutulun.

He was scrolling through his phone, seemingly absorbed in emails, but she noticed the tension in his shoulders, the way his jaw tightened every few seconds.
