The whole place was one hard shake away from giving up completely. And yet my brain, somehow, still found room for one clear thought. There had to be a way to hold it together longer. The moment his boot crossed the threshold, a series of mechanical relays clicked deep within the walls. Above them, a row of emergency fluorescent lights flickered to life, casting a harsh, pale white glow down a long, concrete corridor. The drawing room, corridors, and the second floor were bathed in light again. However, the servants' wing in the back remained submerged in thick darkness. It seemed the generator was reserved only for the main house.

His head is angled back against the wall and his eyes are closed, but I can tell from the way he’s breathing that he’s not really asleep, just resting.
