“Wear it. Be done by 10. A cab will be waiting for you outside.”
I stared at the note.
Judging from how flat and direct the message was, it couldn’t have been anyone else.
Mr. Reynor. Of course.
My heart did a weird little flip in my chest, half excitement, half nerves.
I set the note aside and turned my attention to the box.
Slowly, carefully, I untied the ribbon and pulled away the black paper.
And what I saw stunned me.
A dress. Deep maroon, the colour of deep red wine, of midnight, of something dangerous and unmistakably expensive.
