~ Helena ~ I prepared to go to work the following day. I worked as a librarian at the Moon Public Library (MPL). My work time varied from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on other days. I had a day off only on Sunday.

The rain was hitting the tall windows of the Cedarville Public Library like handfuls of gravel. Owen sat at the front desk, scrolling through the late return fees on his computer monitor, the blue light reflecting off his wire-rimmed glasses. It was 8:47 PM on a Friday. The library stayed open until nine on Fridays, a policy Owen had never understood. Nobody came in on Friday nights. Nobody except the rain and the quiet.

I put a pot of coffee for them and set the plates on the kitchen island where the bar stools were. "Hey, why is my sister and Jake not up yet? It's almost noon.... it's not like either one to get up so late. They're both usually the first ones up... have you guys seen them?" Matt asked us, as he glanced at his watch. Evelyn and I exchanged concerned looks. "I ah, ye--" I was about to answer as we heard foot steps coming down the stairs. Brianna and Jake looked as they had just stepped out the shower and he embraced her by her waist behind her, making her giggle as he kissed her neck.
