Something dark that I’ve always kept suppressed, but now…
He laughs, a sharp and unsettling sound that makes my skin crawl as he takes a step back, his eyes never leaving mine. Kai steps in front of me fully, chest to chest with his brother and cuts off our eye contact. I take the first deep breath of air I’ve had since waking up, my magic calm with his promises of violence.
“She’s not your pawn,” Kai growls.
“Oh, she’s not a pawn,” Talon says, tilting his head with a smile. “She’s the queen piece, our most powerful player, and the rest of us? We’re just weapons waiting to be sacrificed, so she can win the game.”
